Award-winning coffees

Each year producing countries hold competitions where juries blind-taste the best lots, which are then auctioned online. The results are the best way to discover top farms, varieties and processes.

Cup of Excellence

A national competition run by the Alliance for Coffee Excellence since 1999, starting in Brazil. Producers submit anonymously, national and international juries cup blind over several rounds, only coffees scoring 87+ win, and winners are sold at online auction with most proceeds going to producers.

Best of Panama

The yearly competition and auction of the Specialty Coffee Association of Panama, with categories such as Gesha washed, Gesha natural and other varieties. Hacienda La Esmeralda’s Gesha rose to fame here in 2004, and its auctions keep setting world price records.

Other auctions run with the Alliance for Coffee Excellence, such as National Winners (strong finalists below the 87-point line) and private collection auctions such as Best of Yemen.
